Traveling the Douro and what about with kids?

This blogger routinely writes on all-things-portuguese. Here she discusses visiting the Douro valley: http://juliedawnfox.com/2013/09/05/expl ... ro-valley/

It seems like a good jumping off point for those unfamiliar with traveling the region (such as myself).

On a separate note, I will definitely be in PT next year and, unfortunately, I think I will have to put off my plans to visit the Douro region. I will be traveling with my wife and 10 and 13 year old girls, I don't see it being enjoyable until the kids are older. For those that have gone, thoughts?

John,

I've been many times, but never the Douro (except one football match in Porto during Euro 2004). Same reason, I have 3 kids 10, 8 and 5. Someday we will tour the Douro, but not yet. I can't help with the Douro, but I've been in and around Lisbon, west of Lisbon, south of Lisbon (extensively in the Costa Azul) and around the Alentejo, all with young kids. So if you are looking for advice outside of the Douro, happy to help.
