On my way to Day 1, I am stuck behind a railroad train, a very long long train at that. It is pouring rain so hard, my wipers barely enable me to see through the windshield. Sitting and waiting for that train to pass, I notice in the SUV in front of me, there are a bunch of people all smoking and blowing their smoke out the windows. I can't imagine how wet they must be getting from being rained on. I then notice their license plate and it reads: USTAT2. I laugh to myself, where the heck am I? I return to my motel 19 hours later. A less than fun first day. The light at the end of my tunnel, Portugal ... 20 days and counting .... slowly backwards.
