This showed up on WTSO Platinum in August for $22.99 so I bought 4 bottles. It showed up again this week for the same price so I bought 4 more, then figured I should try one to see what it's like.

2003 Broadbent Vintage Port

Color: Medium red with dark purple overtones. Not opaque, but also not watery in appearance.

Nose: Red twizzlers, some very light smoke, and possibly some dark plum jam.

Palate: Only medium body in the mouth, but a good feel. Moderate chalky tannins, good acidity. Some black cherry. Seems slightly tart on entry, but is actually pretty sweet. Reminds me of an aged LBV - it just doesn't have the stuffing that I expect from a top-tier 2003 Vintage Port. Very easy to drink.

Finish: More black cherry here along with some pleasant heat. Good length. Tannins are moderate. Slight bitter edge that never fully resolves.

Score: 90 points. A pleasant easy drinker, but not one for the long haul. Seems likely to be mature in another 10 years at age 20. I started out at 89 points on the night it was opened, but 24 hours later (in the bottle on the kitchen counter) it has improved significantly. Certainly enough to warrant the extra point to 90 points.

This has improved rather markedly after 24 hours, so I'm going to edit the TN to give it another point. It has more body weight now and both tastes and feels more complex in the mouth.

Thanks for the note; I will be sure to decant before I open mine. Was there much sediment?

LOL... I didn't decant the bottle - I've just been pouring carefully so far. It doesn't look like there's much sediment, but I'm only about half way through the bottle at this point. [cheers.gif]

From your note, I'd say it was a good deal at $23.

Yeah, these are a screamin' deal at $23. I'd buy more if I had room to store them anywhere, but the boxes are piling up in the study already!
