You know you are a Port "geek" when ...
Having just read Eric M.'s report on his birthday vertical tasting of Vesuvio VP's and mentioning as his decanting time: 2 hours, 5 minutes ... instead of just rounding it off to two hours; therefore, the inspiration for this thread is in his honor!

...you read all your Selo Numbers hoping one ends with at least 4 zeros, or has 5 sevens in a row, etc.

Still working up to a (hopefully in the near future ) status of Port Geek. Most of my cellar is not port (I'm up to 33,36% divided in 27,79% VP and 5,57% other ports). This is not including the greater part of my 2011 VP orders, which have not been delivered yet.

That's a lot of port considering the amount of your collection is dedicated to it. I think I am around the same, maybe 40% is port for my total collection.

I am at 71.59% Port (of which 67.01% is VP, and 4.58% is other types). But I don't think this percentage of Port makes me a geek, nor does 33.36% disqualify Gerwin. The fact that we can report these numbers to two decimal places makes us both geeks.Gerwin de Graaf wrote:Still working up to a (hopefully in the near future ) status of Port Geek. ...if you can produce this comparison in 30 seconds.
My all-time consumption by producer: (since I started keeping records at CellarTracker) Top six producers
Producer - % of all my consumption - (number of bottles)
Anime 9.3% Consumed (220)
Beni di Batasiolo 8.3% Consumed (195)
Nino Franco 8.3% Consumed (195)
Warre 8.2% Consumed (194)
Vietti 2.7% Consumed (64) tie
Ferreira 2.7% Consumed (64) tie
I'm way behind on keeping up with recording consumption. I bet the Ferreira is in 5th place by now. OTOH, Warre's isn't currently increasing as fast as Nino Franco, and so is falling further behind.

When handed a taste of ancient Port, you have to sit down on the floor before trying it.

That you come back to this thread like three or four times to post, because you keep finding new reasons why you know this fits you like OJ's glove.

Maybe but here's another truism:
... because spending an hour searching for the lowest price on Port wine glasses or decanters is like an art form or a Greco-Roman sport!
