I think these sorts of lists are a bit of a lottery. I can't say I know much about several regions on the list

Sonoma is a pretty cool place to visit and has good weather and wines.
Mexico, haven't been there since college and have no plans to ever go back. The violence there is out of control, it's even happening in the tourist areas now which it never did in the past.
Texas, in the winter when it's not so hot and humid. The summer, heck no. LOL

Texas is kind of my 2nd state, I have a lot of family there... Nice area, but the humidity & heat is no joke in the summer.

Texas in summer might be preferable to Melbourne right now. They were frying eggs on court at the tennis yesterday

OUCH. we're in a winter heat wave. I've never remembered when it was 85 degrees in January. We've not had any rain and that's a bad thing...as evident by yesterdays large forest fire near me.

I've been able to wash our cars just about every weekend so far this winter in Boston. We weren't as affected by the Polar Vortex, but other than that it's been in high 30's, low 40's much of the time.

It had been unseasonably cold in the latter quarter of last year over here, but summer is certainly here now. Normally we get a couple of really hot days then a thunderstorm will come in and cool things down. This time, the storm came after a couple of days but didn't cool things down and lightning started a bunch of bushfires I think there were 4 burning started in the Barossa Valley, just to bring it back to the original post. I'm not sure how that has finished up but none of this is as bad as a few years back.
Andy - you'll appreciate this, The Tour Down Under is about to start in Adelaide so the riders have been in town doing training rides. Andre Griepel posted a pic of his trip computer on twitter during a ride a couple of days ago that showed the temp was 49c. The cool change came through last night so the riders will be thankful of that.

I have not experienced anything like that or really seen evidence of it in the Cancun region. I am not saying there is zero violence, but nothing that would keep me from returning yet again with my family.

I've walked the street at night in several of the local villages and never worried for a moment. Never heard of an incident specifically targeting tourists either. Then again, I don't pay a ton of attention to that except directly before and during our stays.

With all due respect, you have no idea what goes on there as I do. I can tell you, violence is out of control and has even invaded the touristy areas. Areas it never did in the past. Even cruise ships have pulled out of the west coast and been relocated due to people not wanting to go there due to the increase in violence. The drug violence and corruption is out of control and will probably get worse before it gets better. Quite sad really as there are some wonderful people there and beautiful parts of the country.

Same experience here with Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. I am a little more concerned about some of the Pacific coast towns, and am sticking with the Yucatan.

Oh, you mean Northern Mexico, just south of the US border where there is a drug war going on. Sounds like a great choice for a vacation.
