TN: 2010 Quinta do Crasto Old Vine Reserva Douro

Consumed this over 3 1/2 hours, from pop and pour. Lots of smoke and tar on the nose with just a touch of oak in the background. The palate is also dominated by tar and dark, but not overripe, fruit and nice acidity. Lots of tannins have come forward with air, but the full body has keep them from overwhelming it. This all leads into a long consistent finish. Interesting in that, compared to past bottles, this seems to be a stylistic shift from more recent vintages. This vintage being more "old school", to use the term, than previous vintages which were more fruit and oak forward. I must say, I really enjoy the more classic Douro approach this has at this point. My gut tells me this should age nicely, at least in the mid-term, or longer. And I look forward to seeing how this vintage develops.
