TN: 1953 Barbeito Bual

Bottled 10/2000
Molasses/amber colored with green/gold rim.
Rich aromas of tangerine/limes/meaty/smoky/bananas. Very nice on the nose.
On the palate, rich with high acidity. Flavors of caramel, spice, butter toffee.
Decent finish. Good, but lacks the concentration for very good. Another 20 years in cask would make this much better.
91 points.

Justin and Roy,
I've had the H & H Inaug. Madeira. As a matter of fact, since you folks mention it, I'm right now having a little squirt of it. Unfortunately, I only have about an ounce or so left. Rich, quite orange-y in essence, caramel, coffee, and beautiful, zesty tart acidity; quite long... a real Madeira QPR, unless you want to up the ante by a mere 50 bones and get the Barbeito Mae Manuela. Now that one is tres elegant and very intricate, detailed, and complex; a real masterpiece in blending. If you haven't jumped on the Mae Manuela ship, you had better act quickly. She will be sailing soon.
