1980 Offley LBV Port

I don't normally write up my intake of LBV's, but this one is a bit of an oddity.

A proper bottle, with driven cork, I stood it up for three days prior to decanting.

As I decanted, I looked for sediment, but none came. With the bottle at 45 degrees, I abandoned ship and dumped the last couple of sips into a glass. Only the faintest wisp of sediment was apparent - you'd get more from a Tesco ruby...

I was not very hopeful..

My first sip, however, indicated a full, lively, and fresh wine.

Now some six hours down the line, this is proving to be well bodied and very tannic - it's biggest downside being an excess of youth.

Indeed, if I was presented with this blind, I would guess that it was a 2000 LBV rather than an 1980.

Interesting, agreeable - but very odd!
