Is there any type of Port related content that you'd like to see in here in the future?

Yes, I do
Me too. :) I don't check it every day because there's not daily content, but I do check it at least once a week to see if there's anything new.

Me too. And I like the weather/viticulture reports the most, please keep those coming.

Things I'd love to see fall under two general headings:
TRAVEL TIPS
  • Using the metro in Porto - how to buy a ticket, where to buy a ticket, what kind of ticket to buy, how to recharge a ticket, how and when to validate a ticket - it took me a while to figure out that going from Zone N10 to Zone C1 did not mean that I needed to buy a 9 zone pass (I naively thought 10-1=9), but only a 4 zone pass.
  • Using the train to get around the Douro
  • Using the bus service in the Douro
  • Places to stay in the Douro
  • Restaurant recommendations, hotel recommendations
PORT AND DOURO WINE
  • Vines and grape varieties - what makes each one special
  • The growing season - these are great reports, with the demise of the Douro Insider we really miss having any first hand knowledge of what is happening other than when Oscar has time to post
  • Inside a winery - in the Douro and in Vila Nova de Gaia - I'd love to learn more about the facilities the different firms have in VNdG
  • A visit to a Port Lodge - I love reading about other people's visits to the port lodges and the things they see. Some of those lodges are just amazing museums
  • Labels Revived - there are a number of old labels being revived - Hedges & Butler or Maynard, for example. It would be great to get some more information on the people behind these revivals and why they are doing it
  • Seldom seen producers

[*]Using the bus service in the Douro[/b]
There's a bus service in the Douro? Do tell as that may make getting around a whole lot cheaper than cabs.

That's exactly my point. Wouldn't it be great to have someone local tell us about these things?

Yes! someone please let us know of a bus service, or any car service, in the Douro area that is cheaper than the crazy expensive cabs there.

Rede Nacional de Expresso is some help http://www.rede-expressos.pt/default.aspx from major cities to the Douro

Transdev is another major bus service with regional services http://www.transdev.pt/index.php

Within the Douro it's CIC and pretty feeble http://www.transdev.pt/CIC/4/

For example, to get to São João de Pesqueira from Ferradosa train stop, there are services at 7:30 AM and mid day 12:00 and 13:35, thats it nothing in the afternoon. To get back to Ferradosa 11:00 (thursdays only) and 12:35, with one at 17:20 during the school year but it reaches Ferradosa 2 minutes after the train to Porto departs.

That makes perfect sense to anyone who's been there [foilhat.gif]
