D'Olly 89 M or Barbeito 20 Yr M?

Post by Miguel Simoes »

Which would you choose?
The D'Olly goes for about $90/bottle, the Barbeito for $75...
I tried the 89 M and really enjoyed what i found to be its primary, over the top nature. Wondering if worth trying the Barbeito.

Hi Miguel, I've had both in the last year and actually preferred the 20 yr Barbeito. The 20yr has much better balance, nice acid for a malvasia. The 89 D'O was on the sweeter side, so I guess it depends on your taste preferences.

I love them both. I would do the D'olly with dessert and the Barbieto by itself. As Daniel said, the D'olly is a bit sweeter. Both, however, are quality wines and worthy of purchase.
