Aromatics in Port

I keep seeing photos of me turning up in social media with my nose in a glass and my eyes closed, sometimes even an empty glass ... yet still I sniff. Do others also find it easier to concentrate on the aromatics of a Port and conjure up memories of a particular scent when their eyes are closed? Or, is it just me? [shrug.gif]

I tend to stare off into the distance most often, but I do also close my eyes sometimes. The latter is usually when I'm having difficulty identifying some aroma and really need to concentrate.

When I'm concentrating and trying to dredge up descriptors in my mind, I tend to close my eyes.

I'm with Glenn, usually opened and unfocused, but I'll close them sometimes when trying to root out something specifc

Relaxed, so probably half-closed and unfocused.

I seem to be able to detect far more of the aromatic profile if I close my eyes. No question about it...I can discern quite a few more nuances if my eyes are shut. I wonder is someone has actually conducted a scientific investigation of this phenomenon...

An unwashed Madeira glass can have aromatics for days.

I remember the first time I tried Cockburn 1947. (It was from a half bottle.) I carried that glass with me for several days and could still sniff that beautiful cedar and cinnamon smell a week afterwards before finally accepting I had to wash it.
