For The Love Of Port

I did not have time to write down ALL of the prices and skipped the plethora of 10 and 20 year old Ports on the shelf. However, I captured about 80% of what was in the QFC supermarket here. Now this is not like Tesco or anything like that, but a local grocery store (chain).

So although we have some of the highest sales and also "luxury use" taxes in the country (because we have no state income tax ) it was really impressive to see this kind of depth in a supermarket while I was food shopping. I have seen WINE shops locally with less of a selection than this!

Thats a much better selection than we have at the Safeway near me. Although in the past year they have had Warre and Grahams 2000 VP, but it was not a good enough price to warrent buying those upright bottles of unknown provenence.

Sounds like I need to visit Seattle right after the UK!

Well at least you two blue staters get to see wine on the shelves of your local supermarkets. We're beholden to one of two wine reatailers here in Anchorage...up from basically one about three years ago!!!
Seems to me that the competition hasn't done much for Port prices here in town as they have steadily crept up a bit these last three years, or at least any 'sales' on Port of all varieties happens less and less these days.

Before the liquid ban I could barely lift my carry-on from my many trips to/thru Seattle or anywhere else for that matter. i just can't pack as much in my checked luggage as I used to carry on

Amen brother. This was by far the biggest assault on wine lovers of any post 9-11 FAA regulation. By comparison, taking off my shoes, belt, watch and opening my computer and camera on every time through security check points ... is a "pleasure."

Having to bring a styro shipper and check it with baggage, rather than a simple wine bag as carry-on ... along for nearly every single flight now is a serious hassle. :twisted:
