1975 Croft Vintage Port

One of four bottles acquired in the last year, this the first to be broached.

Bottle chosen for having the lowest level (slightly below b/n). As I cleaned off the capsule there was a strong and pleasant smell of Xmas pudding.

Sometimes when you decant a bottle you get a good instinctive feeling about the contents - this was one of those occasions. The wine came perfectly off it's sediment a few minutes ago.

First sip - pleasantly aromatic, little fire, quite fresh. No great gravitas here, but looking very sound and fully mature..

No long saga of notes on this one as it is a birthday present as well as bottle for NYE.

After 24 hrs a small glass. In the glass it looks more like a 20yr Tawny than a VP, the red giving way to tawny, with a clear edge.

Classic Croft both on nose and palate - fruity and elegant - but light and still rather sharp.

Better than most 75's, fully mature and a little besides.

Score: 6-5

thanks Tom. BTW, are there any of the 1975's that are still doing pretty good?

Yes, but opinions on the 75's (and auction prices) are a bit volatile though.

Graham and Taylor are still showing well, but the prices for all 75's have taken a leap in the last year. What was previously a bargain for those in the know is now looking somewhat overpriced..

Thanks, and I've noticed the price increase too.
