Deciding a port to take to my fathers

I have given him a Barros 41 colheita and he has reclaimed one of his Croft 77 bought on release.I was thinking of a Hoopers 58,delaforce 47,Vargellas 69,or an Niepoort 68 colheita.I'll let you decide.what order would you drink them personnaly I would have the 41 colheita first and the Croft 77 last.

Thats an awesome choice to have! I couldn't begin to even think where to start on when to drink those since your youngest is my birth year hehe
Hopefully if I ever have a kid I'd be able to do that with em.

I think you've deliberately pulled a maverick selection from your cellar, hoping that no-one on this site has ever drunk any of them...
...and whilst I will frown on your antics, I will also confess that I might well have pulled the same stunt...
If the choice of bottle is to be judged on the basis of 'which has probably most to lose from being left in the cellar for the next decade', I'd go for the Varg '69, but it's a VERY close call...

I think that you left out a couple of important parameters relevent to your choice:
1) How much do you like your father?
2) Is he likely to drink the port with you?

I would recommend the Hoopers 1958. 1958 was an "interesting" vintage, but as Tom says is quite likely to last reasonably well in the short term.
But the main reason is that mathematically, halfway between 1941 and 1977 is 1959 and the 1958 Hooper's is the closest to that.

Your half right Tom I think apart from the Niepoort colheita the others maybe on the downward spiral but I've been wrong before.My dad started me on port as a teenager we've got through most 63's and 66's a few 55's and 70's alas that was all drunk in the 80's.Then I got married and we sort of just stopped.I kept buying port he only bought wine after that so I'm keeping the tradition going but it's cost me a fortune over the years.
