Hello all!
After having what I thought was a delicious 2003 Fonseca over the week-end, was thinking about opening my one bottle of 1970 Taylor to compare an aged to a young VP.
I received the Taylor from PC on January 8. Do you think it has had sufficient settling time, or should it rest longer before opening?
As always, many thanks!
David

Hi David,
Good to see you joining us again!
Given the nearly 40 years and the fact it traveled over half the distance across the continent, I would wait another week before opening it. Stand it up now in your cellar. If you are really jonesing to open it ... go ahead and decant it gently for 8-10 hours. Enjoy the '70 Taylor one of my favorites of the vintage. Please do post TNs or at least provide us with your impressions when you have a moment.

Hi David
While I would agree entirely with Roy, I did open up a magnum of Taylors 70 just before new year. It had travelled 20 miles along twisty Scottish roads, been dropped once (fortunately onto something soft) all on the day of the dinner that we drank it at.
We took the precaution of filtering it but the sediment stayed at the bottom and the port was very clear and tasted super. Just goes to show that miracles can happen around Christmas time!

David,
I like to give my wines about 2-3 weeks to settle down after shipping.
