TAYLOR is out of this world ... literally!!!

Post by Roy Hersh »

Faithful to its pioneering spirit, from the outset Taylor's decided to support the initiative of entrepreneur Mário Ferreira that will make him the first Portuguese space tourist. With this partnership, Taylor's seeks to become the first company to take Port Wine into space.

With over 3 centuries of existence, Taylor's has accustomed its consumers to an attitude of constant innovation aimed at greater quality in the production of Port Wine.

Port Wine is truly a national symbol, known in the four corners of the earth as the Portuguese product par excellence, our greatest ambassador to the world. Taylor's is one of the brands that has most contributed to this achievement, as it is recognized in 64 countries on all 5 continents. This accomplishment is due to an enormous trade effort that the company began in 1692. Our purpose is to reach every country and every inhabited place. This is why we intend to join entrepreneur Mário Ferreira (not the one connected to FTLOP) in his involvement in space tourism, without excluding Port wine.

The "other" Mário Ferreira is part of a highly select group of 100 founding members of the Virgin Galactic Club, which includes names such as Philippe Starck, Morgan Freeman and Victoria Principal. Lift-off of Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic Space Ship Two is scheduled for late 2008 from the U.S. state of New Mexico. The whole thing, including the landing, will be completed in two and a half hours. In this trip, Port Wine will start off by experiencing 3G accelerations (the equivalent of three times the force of gravity), and then, for roughly 10 minutes, it will experience the effects of weightlessness, as it finally reaches an altitude of 360.000 feet (110 Km).

Because it is a "complex blend" of liquid, solid and gaseous elements, which are variably affected by gravity, drinking this wine in the space will become a true "feat of engineering". After the trip, the wine will be examined for possible changes it may have undergone.

Taylor's 2003 vintage is the perfect traveling companion for Mário Ferreira, despite being a recent wine, since it has already received the highest classification from specialized magazines worldwide. This vintage will be at its best for consumption 30 years from now; by then "holidays in space" will be a reality and a much sought-after tourist destination.

Thats awesome tho grats to Mario. Remind him to not forget to take some dramamine heh supposedly weightlessness will cause nausea.
Too bad they cant bring a very old port also...sorta meeting of old world/past and new world/future would be kinda cool not to mention I'm curious what it would do to those heavily sedimented ports

Stewart,
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Tang declare a Single Quinta AND a Vintage Tang that year?

Stewart,

And please correct me if I am wrong ... didn't the men land on the moon in 1969?

Think Woodstock, the Amazin' Mets won the World Series, Eric LeVine was born, D'Oliveiras made a good Sercial, etc.

It would be great to see a comment from someone at Taylor Fladgate in this thread. This is a historic event in many different ways and it would be great to read their views on their participation in it.

Please??????

What in the world?

Derek - who are those drunk guys in the boat???

And it is a little known fact, but I have heard that Tang also bottled five Salmanazers, four Balthazars and three Nebuchadnezzars that year.

Wasn't 1969 the year of the Model-T Ford? ;)
