TN: 1900 D’Oliveira Verdelho Vintage Madeira

Post by Daniel Tisch »

Just curious if anyone has any TN's on this wine? I've heard a few third-hand and vague mixed reports....but nothing clear enuf to hang my hat on. Any thoughts?

Also, how does this compare to the D'olivira 1912 or 1929 verdelhos, for example?

thanks!!

Daniel, this was from the Seattle Madeira event 1/07. It was written by Dr. Peter Reutter, world renowned Madeira expert (from Germany) and I am sure he won't mind if I share this with you:

1900 D'Oliviera Verdelho
The 1900 Verdelho displayed a clean mahogany color with an iodine rim and just a little glycerin on the glass. The nose had some volatile acidity, ginger bread and some nice burnt flavors to it. In the mouth there was a pleasant balance of sweetness and acidity and some coffee, but the wine lacked a little depth. The finish was rather short.

I hope that helps!

Daniel,

You can find my cryptic notes on these 3 wines, also posted 1/23/07. This wine was underwhelming, the other 2 quite lovely.
