Berry Bros are probably the most influential British wine merchant at the top end of the spectrum.
In their opening assessment of the 2006 Bordeaux vintage, they state (in the first paragraph) that they will be looking for a 70% reduction in price compared to 2005.
Even if last year's wines were much less impressive, that's still quite a difference, and to go so public, so soon, suggests to me that they're on the offensive over over-pricing.
If the 2005 vintage was sailing out the door, with the till ringing merrily, would they be drawing a line in the sand over pricing?
- I doubt it!
