1802 Acciaioly Terrantez - the holy grail of Madeira

Post by Roy Hersh »

As you well know, the entire Terrantez crop was decimated by disease soon after this vintage, and the grape has never been replanted in quantity. Also, the Acciaioly company no longer exists, and any of its wines are very seldom available.

In addition, according to the label, this particular wine mellowed in its cask for at least 148 years before bottling for Gustav VI of Sweden (reign: 1950-73). Only four bottles were found in a London warehouse.
The whereabouts of two bottles remain a mystery, as he purchased only two, drank one – and now offers this remaining bottle for your Madeira collector friends’ enjoyment.

A gent in the US approached me about the bottle and it is a bit rich for my blood, even though it is by far and away the most amazing Madeira I have ever had (twice). It is in very fine shape, was purchased by the current owner in 1997 and he wants to sell the other one. Send me a Private Message if you are seriously interested, but please realize this is not in inexpensive bottle!

I have no interest in this beyond putting a buyer and seller together to work out the details. I will not be making a commission in case one of the skeptics out there was curious.
