Small bottle sizes

I've been away for the Easter weekend and did a bit of wine magazine reading. I came across an article that discussed the conventional naming of small bottle sizes and I wondered if this article was consistent with the general understanding on this forum (I don't think it is).

The article gave the names of the bottle sizes of less than one bottle as follows:

75cl - bottle
50cl - imp
37.5cl - half (bottle)
25cl - split (bottle)
19cl - quarter (bottle)

Is this what people generally understand to be the names of bottle sizes in the port and madeira world? When I read discussions where someone discusses opening a split, should I take that to mean a 25cl bottle size?

Here in the USA a "split" is a single service bottle that holds 187 ml and is half of a half bottle. It holds just over 6.1 ounces of wine or slightly more than the typical 5 oz. pour in your average restaurant in America. Of course Port pours in smaller glasses are usually between 2 and 3 ounces.

Roy's correct, however I've noticed that the majority of posters on various bulletin boards confuse the split with the half bottle.
