Anyone in the US or Canada purchased from HDHWine.com?

I was looking at HDHWine.com (Hart Davis Hart)
I see they are located in Chicago - perhaps someone there might be able to provide me with an experience note or two??
http://www.hdhwine.com
Browsing though even their online retail section yielded some decent deals... compared to local Edmonton prices. I have yet to actually open an account and calculate shipping from them. Also, depending on the shipping, I suppose Canadian duty might come into play so some of the stuff may very well end up near or over the price I would pay locally. I'm LOOKING anyway and that is a start! :)
Thanks for any recommendations/notes that anyone can give me!

Todd,
I've ordered from them only once without any problems. Not a long track record, but I was very satisfied with the one purchase.

i have bought a few bottles over the years from them with no issues whatsoevever. i do think however, you'll get a hassle from your customs folks if you buy from the us.

I know this company very well. The D in HDH was from the former Chicago Wine Company (Davis & Davis) the first auction house in the USA back in the early 1990s. I bought a slew of Mags from them between 1993-1996.
Now HDH is a company I know even better. Chris Klingenstein is somebody you should ask to deal with. Mention you are a member here and a friend of mine and you will be treated very well.

Thanks guys!
I'll ask for Chris and see if he has much experience dealing with Canadian orders. He may have some insight into the customs/duty, being that he is in the business. :)
Or. I'll order ONE bottle of something and find out for myself just how bad it can be

I have a friend in Edmonton who is a lawyer that is WELL versed in the legalities and duty/taxes involved in obtaining wine and bringing it into the USA. No USA retailers are really that sharp on this topic. Email me for an introduction, as I think he would shed some bright light for you.

A friend of mine is always ordering from them when he goes in the US.
I did call them once asking if they would ship to Quebec even though its illegal and I don't expect to be refund if the shipment does not come to destination. The answer was still no, they don't ship to Canada.
For shipping cost, I know they have very competitive price fon central USA, but when I tried to ship to Northen Carolina, the price was not interesting.
Good luck with that and let me know if you are able to convive them.

Argh! Silly Canadian laws...
"Canadian law prohibits us from shipping wine to Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Yukon Territory."
So, you can't ship to CANADA (as those are all the provinces and territories in this fine country!) :) (I imagine this will be the same for the majority of auction houses in the US, including HDH.)
Looks like if I want to bid on any of these auctions or buy something online, it'll have to be delivered to an address in the US and then a road trip is in order! (maybe not such a bad thing!)
