For The Love Of Port

I'm wondering how the first compares to the 2nd edition? I see Amazon.com has both available... the 1st edition is obviously a LOT cheaper. I'm unclear on what updates (aside from maybe tasting notes) would have been made in the 2nd edition? Has anyone got (and read) both?

OK, we're left guessing here as there's only so many characters you can put in a topic heading..

Are you talking about Richard Mayson's book: Port & The Douro?

If so, I'm not aware of a third edition - I have the first edition (in paperback, with the bottle on the cover) and the second edition (in hardback, with the boat and brown background)

The second edition, which includes vintages up to 2003, is a significantly better book than the first, and is worth buying.

I prefer the latest edition of the book, as Mayson includes his tasting experience when he came and stayed here in 2003 for an extraordinary 3 day tasting extravaganza I hosted.

In all seriousness, no matter which version you obtain, you'll learn a lot from Rich's book. He is a great guy and I had a fun exchange with him earlier this week. Unfortunately, I will not see him this year unless I go to the Alentejo, but might try to hook up in Madeira instead.

Yes, I did mean Port and the Douro. I was mistaken about there being a 3rd edition... I was browsing and found a different book with a 3rd edition and confused the two (time to start drinking some port - that'll clear things up!)
