The dow's I've had a couple of times this year and I think their is more to come from this wine although it is still very pleasent to drink now.The Noval 78 is a lot better than their 75 but still a bit on the weak in body and fruit on it's way out I prefer the Vargellas for this year. The Martinez was lovely drinking I would say at it's peak and what a bargain price on the coat tails of the best 85's.

Simon,
Martinez seems to be that odd duck that ocassionally turns out a good VP.

I found Vargellas '78 to be an excellent wine for drinking now - not expensive, and one to look out for.

Simon,
Hi. How did you come across the Martinez 85, and how much was it. I'm keen to find a bottle.

Mz 85 appears surprisingly often at auction - and also has a habit of not meeting it's reserve.
When it does sell, the typical sale price is around £130 - £140/dozen.

Thanks Tom,
If you hear of any, even a bottle or two, with your more active and knowledgable eye, let me know and I'll chase it up.
I believe Martinez can be very hit and miss, but the 85 Derek,Alex-K and I had recently under the Harvey label was gorgeous, and again theres Simon saying he found it 'lovely'. I just cant seem to stumble across any.

Alex,
Which of Martinez's VPs have you enjoyed so far? There US Importer used to be right here so I have a fine grouping of their wines in the past and would like to hear your opinion on this Shippers vintages.

Tom,
Please let us know when this comes up again at auction - I am sure Alan and I would be happy to split a case at £140 if your bidding skills could secure the deal for us - we may even cut you in for a couple of free bottles 8)

Will do - I might even pay for my bottles
The UK trade seems to have virtually no interest in Mz, so it's down to the likes of us to make the running!

You can keep a case or two in storage for me... I will pick it up next time I am in the UK and pay a storage premium as well!!!
(I think I've mentioned this already in one thread or another, but if it weren't for this forum, I wouldn't even know whether Martinez was a legitimate label or not!!! :))
