Dear Mr. Hersh,

I have kept a bottle of cockburns fine ruby wine unopened for twenty years.
Will it still be drinkable.

Many thanks.

I would advice to keep it closed just a little while longer.

I think if all us Europeans joined forces we could put together a few cases of ancient Ruby's to send over to our friends in the New World to let them taste the old stuff :lol:

PS: Roy, I would be interested to read your response to the question

I'd reply with one of these options:

1. Open it and find out;

2. Of course not - it's a Cockburn's Ruby, it wasn't drinkable when it was bought and two decades would have done it no favours;

3. Yes, there was a story about a man drinking petrol recently, this should be about the same.

....or option 4 - if you want to know what a very bad Ruby tastes like after being cooked in your kitchen cupboard for 20 years without opening the bottle, buy a new bottle of Cruz Ruby and drink that

- Will it be drinkable?

Yes - almost certainly.

- Will it be better than a new bottle?

Quite probably - it should have lost it's raw edge and might be quite mellow.

- What should he do with it?

Drink it or sell it to Derek!

Based on the amount of sediment in that last old bottle of Founder's Reserve I had a week ago, I'd say open it and drink it.....of course that cupboard over the stove is not a good place for a wine cellar :wink: :lol:

Perhaps it's time to quote MP: "this is not a wine for drinking but for laying down and avoiding".

-O-

p.s. If anyone knows where to find this skit, please let me know! I've seen most of MPs, but this one has eluded me except in script.
