I will be going to NYC for a few days and was hoping to bring back a few bottles of wine with me. I know about a few of the shops there (Sherry-Lehmann, Morrell's), but I'm not sure which shops might be best for vintage port (price, selection, etc). I'd be looking for vintages with some age (1980, '83, '85, maybe '92).
Thanks!
Norm

Hey Norm,
Dunno if you left for New York yet, but save yourself the trouble of buying port at Sherry Lehmann or Morrell's. Both places are wonderful to visit but they are not the places to buy.
If you're interested in purchasing some Port in the city try Astor Wines (http://www.astorwines.com) or Warehouse Wines which is just around the corner from Astor... Both of these places have pretty good prices. Remember the NYC sales tax though!

Astor Wines and Warehouse Wines are two places that immediately come to my mind too. There's also Union Square Wines and Spirits, which is a fine wine shop located on Union Square (of course), not far from Astor Wines & Warehouse wines. Nevertheless I would like to suggest this one favourite place of mine: 67 Wine. It's a lovely shop. You may want to check their website: www.67wine.comalec4444 wrote:[...] try Astor Wines (http://www.astorwines.com) or Warehouse Wines which is just round the corner from Astor... 67 Wine has a very nice selection of old Vintage Ports. Including several from the 60s & also from the 70s. Not to mention a selection of over 60 (maybe 67

Their phone number is 212-724-6767 and toll free: 888-671-6767. [Have you noticed the repeated 67 on their phone numbers too?].
P.S: I live one hour north Lisbon, in Portugal. However, sometimes I feel I'm more familiar with NYC than Lisbon itself .
