The US not making the list is no surprise...as I am now home early from work, and will be off for a few days after some minor injuries in a fight tonight...ohh well, medication and Port...a good combo right now

Just to complete the picture..

49.....UK

50.....Mozambique

95.....Yemen

96.....USA

97.....Iran

121....Iraq (last place)

I wonder how many years back the research goes? Some of those in the top 10 have a very shady history - including Portugal :?

Very true, I wonder what the ranking would have been 30 years ago?

I do very much admire the Scandanavian countries and the whole idea of foreign aid as opposed to exploits. Seems to work too, after all who hates Norway? And this in a country with mandatory service. A couple of lessons to be learned for sure.

Alriiiiiight... Canada #8 baby!!! Too cold up here to have any serious problems with aggression... wars would end prematurely on account of frozen, well, everything from the munitions to the people using them :D
(We just peace-keep - whatever THAT means! ;) )

Tell that to the Finns, who Spanked the Soviets in the dead of winter  The US has an Artic Infantry Division, homebased in Alaska with associated reserve components in Minnesota. Not very sexy, when your transport is a squad hooked up to an aykio on skis or snowshoes :D

Okay, okay... I rescind the "reason." I'll go for the less humble approach - we kick ass (at peace!)

Mind you... we are known to have some really good alcohol content in our beer :? Unibroue comes to mind... :D

The US has just announced that it is invading Yemen in order to move up to #95 on the list... :)

I wonder how Iraq got to last place, given that after the Iran-Iraq war, both of their wars involved the US....what puts the US as 26 places better? And how does Iran end up worse than the US, given that the US has had three wars since Iran had their last one, two of which are still going on?

Portugal sounds better and better, even leaving asides the Port. Plus it's beautifull!

You should take a look at the site and see all the criteria that they use to determine the rankings:

http://www.visionofhumanity.com/GPI_Ind ... /index.php

Not just the number of wars, but also some internal data as well.

I have sent an email asking for "Threats to other nations port stocks" to be added to the criteria.

Their initial response suggests that Jay's posts on this site alone will result in the US dropping below Iraq once next months results are published

1) Using chemical weapons on your own citizens
2) Genoside
3) Imprisonment, torture and murder of political opponents
4) Feeding live prisoners to your pet lions
5) Invading Kuwait
6) Institutional Corruption
7) Tribal Warfare
8) Posing a threat to world oil supplies
9) Being a made-up country that never existed as a single entity before the demise of the British Empire
10) Sponsorship of Terrorist Organisations

I think only 6 of these apply to the US which explains why Iraq came last

No, that's penalty points - and even more for his ridiculous wife

Derek

PS: He managed to injur himself tonight in a one-sided match against an Estonia Under 12's team. No doubt he has a clause in his contract with his new LA team that allows him to pick up a pay cheque regardless of whether or not he ever actually plays for them :?

PPS: Do you want to take Wyne Rooney now before he checks into a re-hab clinic?
