Any opinions if unfiltered LBVs go through a Dumb Phase

Anyone have any experience with this? My Noval 1997 stash seemed to start going into a closed phase about 4 months ago and last bottle seemed to verify that. Is that even possible?

I'm not sure about a dumb phase. I would have thought it was time to drink up the 97 LBV, having said that I had some a few months ago and it was fine. I have usually finished an LBV by the 10yr mark as that's why I buy them.

Raj,
Maybe decanting will help?

Why wouldn't an LBV go through a dumb phase? Vintage Porto does, as does every non-fortified table wine. LBVs are no exception to this, IMHO.

Nicos,
I'll try decanting my next bottle this fall and we'll see.
Jason,
Thanks for elucidating my question further. I was just curious of the windows for such a "dumb" phase would be similar to VP or maybe different due to the extended wood time.
