What is it with this 1994 Duff Gordon VP?!

Post by alec »

Now I've seen it at two major wine stores: 1994 Duff Gordon Vintage Port selling for $17.99/btl "marked down from $49.95". Not LBV, but VP. I checked it out on Wine Searcher (http://www.wine-searcher.com) I indeed see some places selling it for $49.95 per bottle.

So I bought two bottles.

For $18/btl, this stuff is really truly phenominal. It was lovely, with nice round tannins and not overtly sweet. Wine Spectator gave it 89 points. (though for the record I put no stock in that) Does anyone know what the deal is with this wine? I'm guessing some importer bought this stuff for nothing and is attempting to dump it in a hurry.

I bought two more cases.

Alec,

I have had a bottle of this for several years and, when I saw these sales, I was wondering if I had a bottle of varnish or something. Good to know it's a decent port!
