Madeira Festival - Pictures

Post by Moses Botbol »

Madeira Fest was quite an event. One thing is for sure; Madeira is in high regard by the Portuguese community. They must’ve gone through 100’s barrels through the whole event.

The weather was 96 F outside, and we decided to go during the day so I could enjoy my favorite Portuguese foods and not be in a line for the Madeira. It gets quite out of control at night. 1000’s of people from all over the world come to this event!

The Madeira being served was Justinhos 8 year Madeira. It’s the only event where barrels are exported, and any leftover barrels are emptied into gallon jugs to be auctioned off at Christmas. Each barrel holds 65 gallons, and there was a hell lot of barrels consumed over the 4 day festival. The Madeira was served very cold. A 3 oz cup was $3.00, and a 7 oz cup was $6.00. I could not buy a whole barrel of Madeira, no matter how much I tried.

The food is typical Portuguese food that I have grown up with and love (I am from huge Portuguese community, although I am not Portuguese at all). Linguica & Cacoila sandwiches, Favish, and Malasadas… I made sure to have them all!

Yeah... the cold Madeira really went down nicely in the heat. I must have sweated off 10 lbs (but gained it back with the carne espeta).

How did you find out about what Madeira was served? The guys I asked at the Santana House had no idea.

Cheers,
Marco

Just asking the guys serving the Madeira. Some knew more than others. Seemed about right; better than 3 year, but not as good as 10 year...

Moses,

Is it just me, or are the photos in your initial post here, not showing up?

I'd like to see 'em!

I could not initially see them until I right-clicked on the image icon and allowed the image to be seen via the pop up menu. Weird...

Hi Moses -

If I'm not mistaken, this piece/thread here is related to the Madeira Festival you are referring to.
