20 Year Old Tawny Port by Taylor

Post by Michael C. »

Deep reddish brown, almost mahogany in color; liquid is transparent and not syrupy or thick. This aged tawny is very interesting on the nose, with an almost chalky chocolate-mocha at first, that then opens up to muted cherries and cinnamon, with hints of oak. On the palette this is an elegant port, with well-integrated alcohol and balanced fruits of apricots, vanilla, and orange peel. The finish is not terribly long, but there's a nice bit of heat at the end. Though not my favorite in terms of "complexity" this is one I will continue to buy for Taylor's refined and sophisticated style. 90-91. I'll continue to try this one over several days and note any deviations from the original review...

Michael,

While I haven't had one of these babies in a while, I agree with your assessment - not fully complex, but nice. A solid 20 year Tawny to be sure.

I accidentally "lost" a half bottle of the Taylor 20 year in a box when moving to my current residence and was shocked and amazed to find it just as good nearly two years later as when first opened. Perhaps not as fresh, but very tasty...
