Need some help pairing food with Verdelho

Post by John Danza »

Hello all,

I need to solicit some assistance from the group. I just picked up some bottles of Henriques 15-year Verdelho. Never having had any Verdelho before, let alone this one, I need some help pairing it with food. Can you tell me what sort of appetizer-type food would work well with this wine?

Thanks very much for your help.

I like veldelho with my dessert, especially nut base desserts like almonds cake or filbert ones.

This is not your typical food and wine pairing suggestion but I enjoy country fried chicken with Verdelho during the meal and for appetizers, I think you should serve it slightly chilled with assorted nuts and fresh fruit slices, especially pears and apricots.

Thanks very much guys. I didn't think that Verdelho was that sweet. I like the fried chicken idea. I'll probably go with cold fried chicken strips for the appetizer with the wine.

All the best,

I was going to say chicken as well, perhaps with speck and figs. Basically I think Roy and I are on ths same page as what to serve it with...
