J W Hart ???
What can you tell about this "producer"? J W Hart?
I've seen a standard tawny, white and a "organic reserve ruby". But also a lot of colheitas - but "colheita" is typically not mentioned on the label - instead the label says "matured in wood" - on some labels it does says "colheita". Due to the fact that a lot of labels only says "matured in wood" - the wine is mistaken for a "vintage port". Just try www.winesearcher.com!
I don't think J W Hart produces "vintage port" - but if they do - can you provide me with som documentation - a link - something?
Best regards from Denmark

Re: J W Hart ???
Interesting. I searched for labels and found a few that showed bottling by the Symington family (this one in 2005):

But more labels list the bottler as Quinta and Vineyard Bottlers-Vinhos SA (also bottled in 2005),

and a few searches for that company shows the address as being at the Taylor lodge, although another gives a P.O. box, and another gives an address I couldn't identify with a lodge. That second image is interesting in that it states that J W Hart is owned by Ryst-Dupeyron, who is listed on many other labels simply as the importer. I think J W Hart is simply a French label put on whatever colheitas they can get a variety of producers to bottle for them.
No, I couldn't find any VPs either.

I've contacted http://www.maisonrystdupeyron.com/en/index.php - hope they can bring some light to the questions?
If I get some answers - i'll post them here.

Re: J W Hart ???
It appears they are some sort of BOB (Buyers Own Brand) and are not a Port producer. That is, they buy finished Port from other producers who label it with the J.W. Hart label and sell it to them.Henrik Lilja wrote:

Andy - I think you hit the spot!
But it could be interesting to know, if the "BOB" want to tell, which producer(s)/quinta(s) actually delivers the port? One, two og from many different places. If the latter - then it is very hard to say, that J W Hart has its own DNA/style... I don't expect to get any usefull answers from rystdupeyron - but we'll see...

Re: J W Hart ???
Well, in 2005 they got stuff from both SFE and TFP. Given that these are old colheitas being sold under another label, maybe SFE and TFP aren't even using their own stocks for these, but buying up stuff from (Casa do Douro, is that the place?)Henrik Lilja wrote:But it could be interesting to know, if the "BOB" want to tell, which producer(s)/quinta(s) actually delivers the port? RYST-DUPEYRON mailed me an answer - here it is:
"Dear Sir,
... We are very pleased to see that you are interested in our ports.
So i am going to tell you a little more about our ports.
JW Hart is our brand. We buy cask from differents producers of ports in Portugal. They bottle the prots for us and then ship it to our warehouse in France with our labels. We usually buy cask from producer such as the Symington Family or other wineyards. it is always written on the label.
We only do Colheita ports no vintage port which are aged in glass bottles."
