Dating back to 1715 Terrantez, the lots in this auction were sourced by our specialist Edwin Vos, who travelled to Madeira and worked directly with various families there to pull rarities from their cellars. No, I am actually not ready.

Not since I have seen that they are offering Terrantez Reserva (compare here http://www.fortheloveofport.com/ftlopfo ... =2&t=16863) in the 6 pack!!! But the best: estimate is 12-18 grands.

I would be willing to buy 2 but 6??? The same with WS Boal.

I was even thinking about making the offer here to make a consolidated bid offer and then split the lot - but I guess this would involve quite some homework and would stress the main bidder out (paying all the money and then hoping for the others to actually pay...).

And I'm most worried that prices for those Christies-Madeiras in general will go through the roof.

One interesting bottle is the CTO Canteiro Verdelho 1860...bottle looks similar to 2 I own myself but mine are definetely Terrantez 1730(compare here http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=1128049).

I've actually bid on a large number of lots, doubt I'll win more than a small fraction however.
I also got an email for a pre-auction tasting. I sent a reply but didn't get a response. I'm guessing it filled up in an instant.

20 grands for 1 bottle of the 1715...not bad.
20 grands for 2 bottles of 1846T Borges also not bad...isn't it
25 grands for 6 bottles of H&H T Reserva

A great lineup but things did not go cheap, that is for sure. I was invited by Edwin to take part in the pre-auction Madeira tasting, but I just couldn't swing another trip, right before I head out during the holidays.

Bid on 38 lots. I think I may have gotten one. Some incredible prices! So much for working overtime in the hopes of affording more. I guess I'll spend it somewhere else!

It was fascinating to follow this online from London, having attended the December 2013 London sale in person.
The 2013 prices, which were surprising at the time, now look more than reasonable.

I was particularly interested in four lots, and bought the three more modestly priced ones all above top estimate, but nothing crazy.
I was also interested in the 1820 Terrantez (hoping to split the four bottles with a friend) but I couldn't even get a single bid in as the price escalated so quickly.

I'm of mixed views on the results of this auction.
It does increase the visibility of Madeira to the world at large.
The wines I already own are probably worth more , but now it's more difficult to get other wines I'm interest in!

I think that someone commented later in the year after the Transcendental Terrantez Tasting, that auction prices seemed to have gone up after the reports on the tasting were published. Maybe that started a continuing trend.

I think so. Prices seem double or even triple relative to beforehand.

"Where have all the 1795 and 1802 T's gone?" What I mean is I have not seen any prices for these for a long time ... Especially since 1846 T got so high... I have two 1846 T bought 10-12 years ago and did not pay so much. ( Will check later ).

Well - I had a look at mine...was a no-brainer when available at 500 Euros in 2010.

I just got my invoice from Christies. I actually won three lots. I guess some bidders renigned on their bids. I thought that wasn't allowed.
