1970 Niepoort Vintage Port

Post by Celia C »

Glorious. Bottle in great condition, fill into neck (just), cork came out in one piece. Drank well from opening, tasting now after 6 hours in decanter with stopper on.

Colour still deep red with just a slight hint of tawniness. Excellent spirit, not overpowering but evident. Raisiny nose. Gentle, lovely sweetness with licorice notes and plum, raisin, fruit cake flavours. My second bottle of Niepoort ever and it's already possible to pick a distinctive house style. Much more elegant and refined than the 1960. Loooong finish. Clean, non-cloying, delicious. I'm a big fan! 95 points

Love this VP. Was your bottle the short fat dumpy one or the regular "normal" type of bottle?

One of the best of the vintage, Niepoort in 1970. The 1970 Colheita is great too.
