Quinta do Vallado has just opened a new wine Hotel in the Douro Superior, called: Casa do Rio Hotel. It's in Vila Nova de Foz Côa.

Casa do Rio charges €190 euros per double occupancy.

Cool looking rooms and pool. The later will come in real handy if you stay there during the summer months.

No doubt. Looks amazing. I hope they can keep their pricing in line, especially in that remote part of the Douro. Great to have a hotel option up there though.

I like that they include a dinner for two if you book two nights there. A good way to offset the price a little...and not like it's close to what most would consider "fine dinning" LOL.

That is for sure. However, as I've watched the Douro go 0-60 in 21 years, I can only imagine that now that tourism is growing each year, that there won't be more and more hotels and restaurants and cruise ships etc. doting the length of the Douro (on both side of the Spanish border).

If the new hotel is even half the experience as the main (modern) one in Regua, it'll be amazing.

My co-worker is going to Portugal in about a month. He's looking for Douro hotel recommendation from me. Any others (besides Portal) I can suggest to him & his wife? [shrug.gif]

LBV House, just above Pinhão, was o.k., but not outstanding. I'll probably post a review to TripAdvisor in the next week. If you want to visit a lot of quintas, the location is very good.

The rooms at Pacheca looked nice when we visited to taste and dine there, but we didn't stay in the rooms, so I can't comment on things like hot water and what have you.

The new Vallado property looks very nice, but it is quite far up towards the frontier there. There are some nice wineries in the Douro Superior, but I'm thinking they are less likely to be open for general visitors.

Quinta do Crasto also looked like a real nice place to stay, but it is another place we just visited for wine and a meal, not overnight. Also, while more central, Crasto is on the north side of the river between Pinhão and Peso da Régua, so it is a bit harder to get to the other quintas if you want to visit them. (Google says it takes 33 minutes to get between Pinhão and Peso da Régua on the south side of the river, 1 hour 23 minutes on the north side.)

Quinta do Tedo has rooms too, and is on the south side of the river.

The easiest way to get to Crasto or Quinta Nova next door is to take the train and get off at the Ferrao station and have them pick you up. I know Nova does that if you stay there or plan ahead for a visit. Makes it a lot easier to get to otherwise it's about a 30-40 minute drive from Pinhao.
