Quarles Harris LBV question
I saw the 2009 vintage at Trader Joe's today and since I can't recall trying it I grabbed one. I mean, at $13 it isn't exactly a big risk given the price. At some point soon I hope to find time to open it and give it a review. But it made me think about other vintages of this and I was curious as to what others think of this LBV in general? Any standout vintages, or at least vintages you liked better than others?

Re: Quarles Harris LBV question
I've had the 2005 version once--88 points and rated fair. My notes say more like a ruby reserve.
The 2007 version I've had 3 times--89-91 points was the range. A semi-fruit bomb with a moderate, dry finish. Much better than 2005.
I have not had any other years.
I too, paid $14-$15 a bottle (including all taxes) and I noted several times an excellent QPR. For that price and the quality, excellent cellar defenders or casual drinkers no matter the year. However, it it got to be over $22 I would tend to look elsewhere.

I've seen the 2008 in TJs very recently, so the 2009 must be brand new. I haven't tried their LBV, though.

Thanks guys. I'm curious as to how this one will show given how good a year 2009 was.

Catching up on some older threads.
I bought a couple of 2007 QH LBVs at Trader Joe's thinking the same thing as Andy. For my palate, they're not worth the money. For a couple of bucks more, I can get Dow's LBV at Sam's Club, and this blows away the QH.

Re: Quarles Harris LBV question
I just found a good use for the 2007 QH LBV I have. I used it to create a great currant and port "jam" that I put on top of a brie and walnut cake. Instead of the grapes the recipe calls for, I took 1-1/2 cups of the QH port and combined it with 1-1/2 cups of dried currants and the honey the recipe calls for. Reduced it all down until the liquid was practically gone. Excellent!
