TN: Barbeito 1944 Malvasia Quinta da Piedade

Post by Eric Ifune »

Bottled 02/2000.
Opened a couple of days ago. Dark molasses colored, amber-green rim.
Complex aromas of citrus with tangerines and limes. Toffee and caramel. Toasted nuts. Musky Malvasia.
On the palate, tangy with more citrus flavors. Great acidity. Rich but not particularly sweet. More toasted nuts.
Nice long, tangy finish.
93 points.

Eric,

I have two 1944 Barbeito malvasia bottled in October 2002. They do not have "Quinta da Piedade" on the label. Do you think that they are from a different vineyard?

I don't really know.
The bottle I opened had Quinta da Piedade displayed prominently. If I were to guess, I'd say no.
