US duty on wines

I was wondering what is the duty on bringing alcohol into the US. I believe there is no limit for wines brought in for personal consumption, but is there a duty that needs to be paid? Is it based on volume or value?
Thanks!

These probably have your answer:
https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail ... rsonal-use
http://www.ttb.gov/tax_audit/atftaxes.shtml
http://hts.usitc.gov/view/Chapter%2022 (instead of the bad link on the first page)
In practice, I've brought up to a mixed case back and declared it, and the CBP officer has never wanted to do all the paperwork to collect their $8 (my guess, not current).
Do note the part about personal consumption. You don't want to look like you are going to re-sell. Everything I've brought is for personal consumption, and I figure a mixed case looks that way.

Thanks Eric. I'll be bringing in two mixed cases, but with my wife with me, it hopefully won't be an issue.

Declare everything. Usually the customs guys will just waive you through.

Yup. I always declare it, if asked/told of the limits by the CBP Officer I always say I know the limits which is why I declared it and I offer to pay duty....and waived through I go.

Global Entry helps if you do not already have it.
