So....Which producers do you think are most skilled at creating Colheitas?

And my quick answer was:
Kopke, Rocha, Weise & Krohn (now bought out by Taylor);
then maybe Neipoort?

Niepoort, Noval, and Kopke. I haven't had much Rocha or Weise & Krohn to comment.

Kopke is number 1 on my list.
C. da Silva (Dalva) make some good Colheita's to.

Taylor's made a amazing Single Harvest 1965. But becides 1964 (and 1863) they don't have a broad range of years.

I have not yet had the chance to taste a Colheita (Lucky me), but I am very surprised that none of you brought up Burmester.

I thought besides Kopke and Niepoort that they were regarded as a top Colheita house.

Ooo, yeah. I'll stick with my first three, but Burmester belongs in this discussion too.

Wiese&Krohn, Noval, Niepoort, Kopke are the top tier.
I'd put Burmester, Rocha, Grahams in the second.

I know that a fellowdane, Thomas put the Burmester in the Wishing-pot.

Burmester is very Big i Denmark. A Danish Winemerchant had made a huge buy-in in Porto. And the Danish market is flooded with Burmester.

I have tried 10 different bottles (All the recent bottling, I think it is 2012), and I am not impressed.

I tune in with Wiese & Krohn and Maby surprisingly Ramos Pinto!

But on top, just like Usain Bolt in 100/200 meters, comes Niepoort

True Allan, I think inexperienced port drinkers as myself might often mention Burmester when the topic lands on Colheita. Since the large wine outlet in Denmark that you are referring to, Philipson, bought a massive amount some years ago and are pushing it out on the Danish market. So chances are if a friend offers you a Colheita it would very likely be a Burmester and thus the perspective would be a bit short sighted.

So far I have really enjoyed the Kopke and Krohn Colheitas I have had. Next on my list is to get my hands on some Niepoort.

Kopke and Noval would be my big name picks, but Krohn, Burmester, and Niepoort all do exceptionally well. Graham and Warre have also produced a few stellar examples.

Jasper - that 1965 Taylor Single Harvest Tawny is actually a Krohn product, as was the 1964. There are also 1966 and 1967 (I think) versions coming that Taylor acquired when they purchased Krohn.

Kopke and Barros are the biggest Colheita brands in the Boston market

Yes it is. The 65 is one of the best port i tasted this year. I talked to the export manager of Taylor's yesterday at a tasting and he confirmd that there will be a 66 and 67.
