Worthy of a case buy!

When I head back to Madeira, I am going to seek out the 15 Year Old Borges and grab a case of it for the following winter's pleasure. Does that give you a hint as to its QPR?

Roy and others on the site tend to use QPR as an abbreviation for "Quality to Price Ratio". So in the post above, Roy is emphasising his view that this particular Madeira is good value for money.

Thanks Alex. :idea: So my answer. I agree fully with Roy. Every time in Funchal I buy their 15 years and I also have excellent contact with the winemaker, Isabel. She is great......
Their QPR IS EXCELLENT, especially comparing with MWC!!

Credit must go where and when due and Reidar, it was you that turned me onto this producer and especially this bottling. I humbly thank you for this.
So does my friend Stewart who happened to be here to suck down half the bottle (after dinner and a few other bottles) ... slowly of course. Over the course of the bottle, we went over our written game plan for FTLOP through the end of 2008. A fun evening of enjoying this nectar and pontificating about the many projects and enhancements to come here on the website in the next 14 months.

In general (and I probably repeat myself here) it is my impression that H.M.Borges is somewhat underestimated, as are almost all the other producers besides the MWC.
The different brands of the MWC really have set some standards for very old vintages - but unfortunately these are no longer available. When it comes to younger vintages and simple "QPR" the other producers certainly can be more than competitive.
I feel that the MWC today is more important for what they did for the Madeira wine market in general, creating new products, advertising Madeira wine to new consumers and helping a lot with a general revival of Madeira wine.

Which 15 y Borges are you referring to? Bual, Sercial, Verdelho...? I noticed the following on the web... are these the wines you are referring to?

Reidar,
I have and am putting the importer together with Isabella. A great pairing but this importer specializes in Portuguese table wines, some Port and no Madeira until now. It is the perfect fit.
I love when I can help in this way.

Yes, please do. Their 1940 is excellent as well and a great QPR wine.
