Interesting the mix of Portuguese wines that appear on the WS Top 100

#16 2009 Taylor LBV
#24 2002 Blandy's Bual Madeira
#25 2012 Quinta do Crasto Douro Superior
#39 2013 Real Companhia Velha Douro Porca de Murça Red
#84 2013 Duorum Douro

I think I captured all of the Douro+Madeiras.

Thoughts on these selections?

I think I'm going to have to try the 2009 Taylor LBV!

I really liked their 2003. 2005 not so much, but 2007 was again pretty good but still not as good as the 2003. Maybe the 2009 will be my new favorite of theirs!

I have a few cases of the Taylor 2009 since it's the year I met my wife. I thought it was good but not THAT good.

Well if the quality wasn't ... I assume the price was? [bye2.gif]

There WERE a surprisingly large number of "affordable" wine in the Top 100, at least compared to some previous years. They say that the criteria is based on "quality, value, availability and excitement." While there are, of course, the normal, expensive cult-type of wines on the list, I wonder if this year's list might be trying to include more wines that are focused on the "value" and "availability" criteria. There are certainly fewer wines on the list that cost $100 or more:

2013 - 12 Wines over $100
2014 - 11 Wines over $100
2015- 7 Wines over $100

They've taken some heat over picking wines in the top 10 that were basically mail list only, small production, expensive, and sold out long prior to list coming out. It seems they have been adjusting their selections to more mainstream, easier to find, and affordable wines.

Certainly was. I bought three cases at $17.5 per bottle out the door
