Port can definitely be had with turkey on Thanksgiving and especially wood aged Ports. Ok, so many of you will likely open a great bottle of Port for dessert instead.

What is your plan?

I made a Derby Pie for tomorrow. The pie is made with chocolate chips, bourbon, and pecans. I'm pairing the pie with a Fonseca Bin 27. Besides my wife and I, the majority of those we will be sharing our time with will be port newbies.

We plan on opening up a 2000 Sandeman's VP.

It'll be a '94 Croft, to (slightly belatedly) celebrate my little brother's 21st. Otherwise it would be the '65 Delaforce Colheita I found at the LWS today.

Already open to slowly make our way through over the holiday:

A pair of bottles of Madeira ...

20 and 30 Year Old S. Leonardo Tawny Ports

30 Year Old Krohn Tawny Port

40 Year Old Brunheda Tawny Port

1971 Dalva Golden White- was finished the other night.

In decanter for tonight is a 1977 Fonseca.

Perfect on a snowy Thanksgiving Day into night in Colorado.

May all your bottles show well!

In the decanter, 1985 Dow's. It will most likely get tipped when the Stilton comes out on the cheese tray. The 'Duque 20yo is on deck, also a 2004 Eiswein for dessert.

I served the 20YO Ferreira to go a long a banana cream pie and some brownies. Home made naturally.

It was very well received.

Happy thanksgiving. And be careful on black Friday. [kez_11.gif]

Yes, most certainly. I usually only make it on Derby Day, the first Saturday in May, but will always make it when it's specially requested.

1 9-inch pie crust
¾ cup sugar
3 tablespoons flour
3 eggs, beaten by hand
¾ cup melted butter
⅙ cup bourbon
½ tablespoon vanilla
¾ cups of chocolate chips
¾ cups of chopped walnuts

Add the chocolate chips last and fold them in to the rest of the batter. Bake a 350F for 30 minutes.

This recipe makes 1 pie

Well, did not have time to have vintage port on turkey day, but opened up a 1994 Crasto VP yesterday. Interesting port. Flavor changed a lot. One point it was really floral with Asian spices and soy sauce, the next like burnt sugar and heat. Then again, Elys thought it tasted like when an apple goes brown... Tough crowd. I'd give 88 points. First time trying.
