TN: 2009 Chave Hermitage Farconnet

Tasted January 1/16. After the Burgundy Christmas debacle, it was hoped the New Year would bring a change for the better. Suffice to say, any wine associated with Jean-Louis Chave is worth trying out. This is sold under its merchant/negociant label, although it is partially sourced from the estate's own holdings in Peleat and Les Dionnieres. The rest comes from purchased fruit from les Greffieux. Was purchased for $35 from an online auction. It needs at least 30 minutes of decanting and probably could easily last another 10 years. It has very nice red currant and bitter dark chocolate flavors and aromas, and very refined tannins. Excellent wine. I can't compare it to the iconic Hermitage grand vin, which costs almost 10 times as much. It is offered for about $70 to $90 and is worth it.
