After years of talking about it ...

Post by Roy Hersh »

Finally!

For nearly five years, our friends at Quinta do Crasto kept "threatening" to release a Colheita Port. I've tasted this on at least three occasions during that time frame. Well, lo and behold, (from their press release):

"Quinta do Crasto has just launched a new wine, thus increasing its range of Port Wines - Quinta do Crasto Colheita - an old Tawny produced from a single harvest, with grapes coming exclusively from the old vines of Quinta do Crasto, that aged in oak barrels from the year of the harvest to the bottling. The 1997 harvest is the debut of Quinta do Crasto Colheita, a wine that is a tribute of the fourth generation of the family to Fernando Moreira d'Almeida, son of Constantino de Almeida, the founder of Quinta do Crasto, and that reflects his art in the elaboration of Port Wines of Excellence."
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Yay!

Hmm... I wonder if that means that in "off" years they might keep Vinha da Ponte and/or Maria Teresa separate and make Colheita out of them?

I'd buy a Vinha da Ponte Single Vineyard Colheita!

I tasted this port a couple of moths ago, here are my notes:

The Colheita is incredible rich and has a lot of flavours. I taste almonds, figs and dried fruits. The aftertaste is thick and long. I really like the balance in de acidity giving it’s nice freshness. Tasting this blindly I would say it is way older.
