I know that there are at least a few people who are Madeira enthusiasts and I look forward to learning from and sharing information with you. Next month, I will be reviewing over a dozen of the ancient beauties and will of course, post TNs on all of the wines.

Hi hope that after this post you´ll not be jealous, because I started my Madeira tasting and I´m now a Madeira Lover also, once that my first Madeira was a D´Oliveiras Verdelho Reserve (medium dry) from 1912, amazing aftertaste (at least 15 min. struggling in the mouth) and a very nice acidity.
Thanks to Roy, because he drop by the bar and he gave me the oppened bottle with a nice quantity for a four glasses.

Yeah that was a smoking Madeira. But that 2007 Noval VP was no slouch either and has been the only VP I've ever been able to go back to drinking AFTER a Madeira. Both were so jummy

Sounds killer, I've got to try the 2007 Noval. Were you able to find out if they made a Nacional in 2007?

Sorry no news on the Nacional

There is only some minor news after a dinner with one key Noval person this week. It is still a possibility for their to be a 2007 Nacional. No final decision has been made and there is certainly still time for Christian Seely to decide for the declaration. I believe he will wait to see if there is any change in the economic climate and ESPECIALLY how the Euro interplays with the GBP. That is a key factor that I know he is paying close attention to.

Now back to Madeira.

That bottle of Madeira made its rounds and was also shared with Miguel Corte-Real. It would have been easy to sit and finish it off but I wanted to share this with my friends at Vinologia and am very pleased that this was such a big hit there and more so ... to learn that afternoon that it was Goncalo's very first taste of Madeira. I knew he'd love it, as it is not only such a beauty, but quite similar to some of the old Colheitas that I know he loves.

It was the only Madeira I had on the trip (I hand carried it from home in Seattle) nearly two weeks before it was emptied at Vinologia. It couldn't have wound up in any better hands than it did!

Well there was one vinified, but it’s still slumbering in wood in the armazém at the Quinta. Who knows what might happen one day…
