Wine Society bottling. Bright medium dark red with slight paleness at the rim where there is clear attenuation - quite a full colour for its age. On the nose, very spirity to begin with, but gradually settling down and after two days perfectly composed. Darkly fruity and very persistent with walnut hints. A big, liquorous wine on the palate. Sumptuous black cherry fruit underpinned by strong acidity and marked tannin leading to an overall dry impression. At its best on day 2 and perhaps losing its shape a bit by day 4, but it seems to me there is enough stuffing in this wine to offer the prospect of continued development for many years to come - not in any way primary, but still quite burly and well short of the ethereal stage. At its best, 95+ points.
