1963 Taylor Vintage Port
Nearly identical in appearance to the 1963 Fonseca tasted immediately prior, surprisingly red for a wine this old. There is some really weird aroma that I’m trying to figure out. Rancid nuts! Not totally rancid, but starting in that direction–nuts that have been on the shelf for longer than they should be, but you can still eat them. Sweeter nuttier now–pleasant pecan, and a hint of tobacco. Taylor strength in the mouth, with the expected pleasant alcohol warmth. There is lots of fruit, cherry, … and the aromas is developing, with some coconut. This has a nice integration of fruit, acidity, and warmth. If it had not been for that bit of off rancid nut aroma, I would have scored this 95. But overall, I’ll give it 94-95 points. Later this had some smoky meat flavor that was pleasant.
