1997 Souza Vintage Port

Decanted 6 hours. Noticeable bricking in the color is advanced for a top flight VP of this age, but in line with an earlier maturing one. Soft and slightly creamy body with mostly resolved tannins. The fruit is more into the secondary stage now, with dried cherries, lingonberry, and surprisingly still a little bit of chocolate. A moderately soft finish makes this pretty easy to drink. This won't get any better from here but should hold for a few more years and will serve as a good cellar defender.

Did 6 hours seem about right to you? Or would 4 have given it a better showing?

All the Souza's I've had were 10-13 hours and were OK, seemed like a decent time--usually scoring 88-92. Maybe I should try a shorter decant on the next one just to see.

Seemed about right. And I saved some for the next day with no real noticeable change.
