2012 Niepoort LBV Port

Color: Very dark purple, reddish tint at the rim. Opaque center.
Nose: Smells very young and very purple, if that makes sense. Slightly restrained - the fruits are present but not boisterous like in a very young Vintage Port. Very faint black pepper amongst the ripe purple and black berries.
Palate: Tight, but still very fruity. Very smooth tannins - almost creamy in texture. Also good acidity. Bright red fruit notes - red currant? Overall very smooth and pleasant, but with a slightly drier, brighter profile.
Score: 92 points. This was served blind and I suspected an SQVP from 2010-2012, which should add some context to the above notes. It was quite good and the structure was impressive for an LBV.
