NV Churchill 20 Year Old Tawny Port
Posted: Thu Apr 06, 2017 12:17 pm
Served at the 2nd meeting of the Sammamish Port club.
Churchill 20-yr old Tawny Port
bottled 2015, 500 ml bottle
Color: The darkest of the 6, this one reached down to what I'd call dark tawny but with significant red notes. It really looks more like a 10-yr old than a 20-yr old except that it's almost brown.
Nose: Muted. Some faint fig, but not much else to be found.
Palate: A slightly baked note... Douro bake perhaps? Very pleasant and drinkable, but also very unlike the other 5. Oddly, I might go so far as to call this a Portuguese style tawny rather than an English style tawny despite the producer. More fruity (dried) in nature than oaky/nutty.
Score: 91 points. 4th out of 6, but really only by a hair. There was a distinct gap for me between the top 4 and the bottom 2.
